Teaching and Leading with Intention.

The great Martin Luther King Jr. once said, “I often feel like saying, when I hear the question 'People aren't ready,' that it's like telling a person who is trying to swim, 'Don't jump in that water until you learn how to swim.' When actually you will never learn how to swim until you get in the water. This quote resonates with me as a teacher and as a new teacher coach, I never felt quite “ready”-but we don’t have time to wait for “readiness.” Students, families, the community, our world-we need each other- and there isn't time to waste!

After months of contemplating "making the BIG LEAP" into the blogging world, I've decided to dive in headfirst (committing to learn to swim as I go) with the support of my dearest friends, colleagues and National Board sisters who have helped me along the way.   My hope is to share ideas & resources that helped me in the classroom, supported me in leading teams, in coaching other teachers and developing myself and my practice. I believe this work is about togetherness, it's about collaboration, it's about doing the work that is by far the hardest work, but the very best work-in support of one another. Will you join me?

I'll be posting some freebies for use in your classroom, in collaboration with families, colleagues and administration...speaking of, please check out my first listings at Miss A's School Days! It's a “Family Reading Log” (in English and in Spanish-Thanks, Natalie!) for teachers to generate two way communications with classroom partners. The purpose of this document is to support the development of comprehension & critical thinking skills of students with their loved ones at home. Be sure to check it out and leave feedback!
